Abstract

Energy is the main stay of national economies. However, energy industry is an unpredictable beast. Recent oil price rise beyond $140/-barrel had thrown national economies out of gear Energy securities of nations have become important. A need has been felt world over to find out suitable and alternate energy sources. The research and development departments of energy industries are struggling to find solutions in the form of hydrogen energy, fuel cel1s, biofuels etc. There is a need to work on a host of innovative ideas. The knowledge workers are storehouses of knowledge, novel experience, and innovative ideas. The practice of knowledge management can help in making such tacit information as explicit information which can be put to use by the R&D department. This paper describes a model which shows how knowledge management can help in the scientific and industrial research pursuits in energy industries. Knowledge management may help in meeting some of the challenges being faced by energy industries, e.g., attrition and mass retirements.
