The paper is based on case studies of 30 small hospitals in the state of Rajasthan, India. The cases outline the human resource management in the selected hospitals. An analysis of the cases result in interesting observations based on logic of analytical replication of patterns. The study reveals that while a large number of case leads appreciated the need for professional handling of valuable human resource, they lack skill and commitment to do so. Being small, they cannot justify a separate HR function; however, basic HR functions are taken care of through different organisational arrangements. Most hospitals have evolved their indigenous HR models. This study suggests that awareness of professionally managed HR planning process and its importance/relevance must be emphasized in small scale hospitals, so that the owners/entrepreneurs can optimally utilize their current human resources with maximum level of employee satisfaction.
