Economic growth of uttarakhand: a study

Abstract

Uttarakhand was separated from UP approximately eight years before and is now embark on rapid growth and over all development of state. The initial problems of state are many in all directions, but all are controllable. The plans allocated by planning commission gives a good opportunity to launch the state on the rapid and sustainable growth with emphasis on developmental environment inclusion, The state has made rapid growth, the strategic location of the state is additional advantage in northern boundary of country sharing its borders with Tibet and Nepal. The structure of state's economy is largely service sector based. Despite healthy growth of state per capita income is still low. while majority of the people are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. As a result of majority of hill cultivators are engaged in cultivation for self consumption. Even then, most of them are not able to meet more than eight months need of food grains.It is only in the plain districts of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun that cultivators are able to produce a large marketable surplus.
