The authors have written the paper with a view to study the extent of financial inclusion in India in particular and globally in general and recommend immediate imperatives that need to be addressed by the policy makers to have a more financially inclusive population. The paper also analyzes the efforts made by the government for encouraging and facilitating financial inclusion in India and makes a comparative study with that in Bangladesh, where the Grameen Bank model has been successful in realizing the dream of almost ‘full inclusion’.
