With increasing awareness among business communities on need of going green and adopting more and better green practices, management has now started focusing upon environment management techniques. As businesses are expanding and companies are going global, there is more emphasis on adoption and incorporation of green business practices to capitalize on its advantages. If today business firms want to make green practices as core of business processes then its human resources has got significant role to play in its full-fledged implementation. Or we can say in today's scenario Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) has become a significant business strategy wherein human resource (HR) department play significant role in adoption and implementation of GHRM practices.
Green HRM is novel concept in management arena these days. Most of the HR practitioners in India are not aware of this concept and those who have heard about this concept do not have much clarity regarding green HRM practices. Green HRM entails use of HRM policies in such a way that encourage efficient use of resources in the organization in eco-friendly manner. The basic idea of behind GHRM is involvement of all employees in adoption and implementation of environmental friendly business practices. This paper mainly emphasizes upon developing concept and providing simplified meaning of GHRM and green practices followed or pursued by various organizations. This paper also looks at challenges in implementation of green HRM. Lastly, the study provides some suggestions and initiatives to be followed by organization aiming to implement GHRM.
