l-Aryl-5-atylaminomethyl-3-substituted hydantoins (III) and (IV) were synthesised by Mannich reaction between formalin, l-aryl-3-substituted (II) and (V) and arylamines, and I-aryl-5-(arylmethylene)-3-substituted hydantoins (IV) and (VII) were synthesised by Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehyde and hydantoins (II) and (VI) respectively. The fungicidal and herbicidal activities of the synthesized compounds are reflected in comparison with the standard fungicide Dithane M-45 and herbicide 2,4-D.
