Studies on the synergistic effect of profenofos and piperonyl butoxide (PBO) on pyrethroid toxicity to adults of Heliothis armigera (Hubner) showed that PBO, which synergizes by mixed funclion oxidase suppression, synergized both cypermethrin and deltamethrin toxicity to a high degree whereas profenofos, which synergizes pyrethroids by suppressing the esterase action, was also effective, but less so than PBO.
