A comparative study on the effect of three plant oils viz., Artemisia annua Linn., Ageratum conyzoides Linn, and Azadirachta indica A. Juss on the total haemocyte count (THC) of Helicoverpa armigera Hubner was undertaken by topically treating the final instar larvae on the dorsal side of the mesothoracic region at ED5() (effective dose) values of 1763.39, 3280.30 and 753.80 μg g−1 body weight, respectively. The reduction in THC of A. annua, A. conyzoides and A. indica oils treated insects was 49.6, 41.8 and 48.8%, respectively, as compared to the control larvae. The present study revealed that all the three plant oils tested, affected the haemocyte multiplication of the final instar larvae of H. armigera.
