Pesticidal Contamination status in Farmgate Vegetables in Gujarat

Abstract

Vegetable samples such as brinjal, cauliflower, cabbage, Indian bean, okra, tomato, chilli and other minor vegetables were collected from farmers’ fields from various parts of Gujarat. Out of 214 samples analysed, 145 were found contaminated with organophosphate, synthetic pyrethroids, organochlorine and dithiocarbamate group of pesticides, however only 14 samples exceeded the tolerance limits wherein monocrotophos was the major one.
