Refluxing of 2-hydroxybenzal-4-chloroamline(l) with FeCl3, (CH3COO)2Zn.2H2O and CdCl2, resulted in the formation of respective solid metal complexes (la-lc). On the basis of analytical data and IR studies, a 1:3 metal to ligand stoichiometry has been suggested for iron complexes, whereas 1:2 metal to ligand stoichiometry is given to zinc and cadmium complexes. The infra-red studies have also revealed that the ligands are coordinated to metal through phenolic oxygen and azomethine nitrogen The screening of these complexes against Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporum and Alternaria alternata by spore germination inhibition technique have shown that cadmium complex (lc) is fungitoxic to all the test fungi having ED5() values of 3 ppm against F. oxysporum.
