Dissipation of lindane in/on brinjal and okra fruits were conducted at the Gujarat Agricultural University Farm, Anand, during Rabi 1994–95 and summer 1995, respectively. Both EC and dust formulations @ 350 and 700 g a.i. ha−1 were used on brinjal, whereas only EC was sprayed on okra. The residue persisted till 20th and 5th d in/on brinjal and okra fruits, respectively. Relatively higher initial deposits of lindane residue (1.64 and 5.87 μ g−1 on okra fruits dissipated at a faster rate with half-life values ranging from 0.9 to 1.0 day. However, in the case of brinjal, low initial deposits of lindane dissipated at a slower rate with half-life values ranging from 2.5 to 4.6 days. Nonetheless, rate of dissipation was faster when dust formulation was used. Washing and washing followed by cooking treatments resulted in considerable reduction of lindane residue.
