Abstract

Efficacy of a new insecticide Regent (Fipronil) was evaluated against sugarcane shoot borer, Chilo infuscatellus Snellen and root borer. Emmalocera depressella Swinhoe. Regent 0.3 G and 5 SC @ 75 g a.i. ha−1 against early shoot borer and @ 200 g a.i. ha−1 against root borer significantly reduced their incidence than the standard sevidol 8G/Furadan 3G and chlorpyrifos 20 EC, respectively. No phytotoxic symptoms were observed on sugarcane plant by either liquid or granular formulations. Regent application did not affect cane thickness and juice quality significantly however, higher cane yields were resulted in the spray applications @ 200 g a.i ha−1.
