Development of insecticide resistance to Spodoptera litura in several locations in Tamil Nadu was monitored. Resistance to endosulfan, chlorpyrifos, profenofos and fenvalerate was assayed using the discriminating doses of endosulfan 2.0 μg chlorpyrifos 0.15 μg profenofos 3.0 μg and fenvalerate 0.25 μg per larva. The magnitude of resistance varied in different locations for each insecticide monitored. This report highlights the prevalence of high levels of fenvalerate resistance in field populations of 5. litura in Tamil Nadu. However resistance to profenofos was negligible when compared to other insecticides monitored.
