Abstract

Three commercial neem formulations viz., NG4 (300 ppm azadirachtin), Rakshak (1,500 ppm azadirachtin) and Neem Azal T/S (10,000 ppm azadirachtin) were tested for feeding deterrency against three hopper pests of rice namely, brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål), whitebacked planthopper (Sogatella furcifera Horvath) and green leaf hopper (Nephotettix virescens Distant) with honey dew excretion technique under greenhouse conditions. NG4 at 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0%, Rakshak at 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0% and Neem Azal T/S at 0.1, 0.3 and 1.0% concentrations significantly inhibited the feeding of all the hoppers, with more pronounced effect being at higher concentrations, presumably through primary or secondary antifeedancy.
