Abstract

A new, simple, rapid and robust high performance thin layer chromatographic method is reported for the analysis of commercial suspension concentrate (SC) emuisifiable concentrate (EC) formulations of β-cyfluthrin. A known amount of reference grade synthetic pyrethroid and its EC formulation was subjected to TLC and amount of pesticide present in the active ingredient spot was estimated by densitometry in a single beam single wavelength reflectance mode. Callbratton curve of fhe synthettc pyrethroid was linear in the range of 3.42–20.52 fig, and correlation coefficient for the calibration equation was found to be 0.992. Recoveries from laboratory prepared test sample of the EC formulation was in the range of 97–98%. The method has been validated by further analyses using gas liquid chromatography (GLC)-flame ionization detector (FID). The proposed HPTLC method has application for quality control and determination of the shelf life of commercial formulations.
