Abstract

Field investigations were conducted during the kharif season of 2001 and 2002 at the experimental farm of Department of Agronomy, CSK HPKV, Palampur (H.P.), India, to test the efficacy of pyrazosulfuron-ethyl, a new broad-spectrum herbicide in transplanted rice. Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 20 g a.i. ha1 applied as spray being as effective as its higher dose i.e. 25 g a.i. ha1-applied both as spray and broadcasted after sand mix resulted in significantly lower dry weight of grasses, sedges, broadleaf and total weeds and hence higher values of almost all yield attributes and grain yield of rice over other treatments. However, these treatments were also at par with hand weeding twice in recording significantly lower total weed dry weight and higher rice yield as compared to the remaining treatments
