In vivo nitrate assimilation was studied in excised leaves of C3-barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and C4-corn (Zea mays L.) plants using an HPLC system. Corn was 2–3 times more efficient in nitrate reduction compared to barley. A comparative study on the effect of glyphosate in nitrate reduction reveals an inhibition in barley and not in corn.
