Abstract

The persistence of carbosulfan was studied in water of different pH viz., acidic (4.5), alkaline (9.0) and neutral (7.0) at 5 and 10 μg ml−1 level. The results revealed that carbosulfan was more persistent at neutral than acidic or alkaline pH. The residues in water samples having acidic and alkaline pH reached below detectable level (<0.002 μg ml−1) on 45th day, while in neutral pH the residues persisted over 45 days and became non-detectable on 60th day. The half-life values in water varied from 7.2–7.5 days at neutral pH as compared to 5.7–6.3 and 4.4–5.2 days at acidic and alkaline pH, respectively.
