Abstract

Laboratory study on the effect of some extracts of P. glabra on feeding and development of S. litura revealed that karanjin with Al50 value of 0.30% was more effective in causing antifeedancy than other extracts. It was followed by hexane extract (0.95%), methanol extract (1.84%), and pongamia oil without karanjin (Po-k) (3.71%). Larval weight reduction on 3 DAT showed that karanjin at 0.34% reduced 50% larval weight gain, followed by hexane (0.98%), Po-k (4.08%) and methanol (9.25%) extract. Karanjin was also most effective (0.58%) to inhibit 50% normal adult emergence from the treated larvae, followed by hexane (1.66%), Po-k (4.18%) and methanol extract (5.47%). The order of effectiveness was: hexane extract > karanjin > karanjin removed pongamia oil > methanol exttact > aqueous extract.
