Abstract

A new, simple, precise and rapid high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) method has been developed for the analysis of commercial formulations of Imidacloprid. A known amount of reference grade Imidaclorpid and its formulation was subjected to TLC, and the amount of pesticides present in the active ingredient spot was estimated by densitometry in single beam, single wavelength reflectance mode. Callbration curve of the imidacloprid was llnear in a range of 0.5–5.0 μg with the correlation coefficient of 0.97. Recoverres from laboratory prepared formulation samples were in the range of 94–99%. Pesticide formulations were further analysed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) using UV detector and the results were found to be comparable. The proposed HPTLC method can be used for the quality control of commercial formulations of imidacloprid.
