Abstract

Wheat grain treated with deltamethrin (@ 1 mg g−1) and PGP-15 (Pantnagar grain nrotectant-15 @ 0.5%) were stored in metal bins (50 kg capacity) and inoculated with 50 pairs of Sitophilus oryzae was kept for 18 months to permit selection pressure towards development of resistance to these two treatments in this insect species. Bioassay of the deltamethrin selected population on the basis of LC50, recorded 12.96-fold higher resistance to deltamethrin as compared to the susceptible laboratory population. On the contrary, PGP-15 selected individuals turned to be more prone to deltamethrin than the susceptible control showing the resistance ratio of 0.89. This potentiation in deltamethrin toxicity in PGP-15 admixed wheat suggested its promise in deltamethrin resistance management for this insect.
