Abstract

Studies on the susceptibility of third instar larvae of Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) to certain novel insecticides slong with conventional ones was determined by topical application technique. The LC50 values of emamectin benzoate, novaluron, pyridalyl, flubendiamide, chlorantraniliprole, chlorpyriphos and thiodicarb were 0.0001, 0.0020, 0.0037, 0.0040, 0.0044, 0.0390 and 0.0410%, respectively. On the basis of LC50 value, the order of toxicity of different insecticides was emamectin benzoate > novaluron > pyridalyl > flubendiamide > chlorantraniliprole > chlorpyrrphos > thiodicarb with relative toxicity of 390.0,19.50, 10.54, 9.75, 8.86, 1.00 and 0.95, respectively. The relative toxicity serves as a ready reconer for the selection of suitable insecticides for effective pest management under field conditions. From all these insecticides emamectin benzoate was found to be most toxic insecticide as compared to others.
