Ni-aryloxyacetyl/aroyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones (1–6) synthesized by the reaction ‘of substituted afyloxyacetyl/aroyl hydrazines with ethylacetoacetate were” condensed with different aldehydes and ketones to yield arylidene/α-methylarylidene derivatives (7–42). Most of these compounds have been screened for their antifungal activity against two fungi, viz. Aspergillus niger and Helminthosporium Oryzae. The fungitoxicity of the compounds no. 28, 34, 40 and 42 was comparable to carbendazim.
