Abstract

Five 1,2-bis (4-propenylaminophenyl) ethane derivatives and ten 1,2-bis [4-(pyazolinylcarboxamido) phenyl] ethane derivatives were synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, IR, 1HNMR and mass spectral studies. These compounds were evaluated for their fungicidal activity against Fusarium oxysporum and Penicillium citrinum. All the compounds exhibited fungicidal activity against the test fungi. 1, 2-bis [4-(11-acetyl-51-chlorophenyl-31-methyl-21-pyazolin-41-ylcarboxamido) phenyl] ethane was found to be the most active compound against both fungal species. It exhibited activity comparable to Dithane M-45, a commercial fungicide. The structure-activity relationship of these compounds revealed that 1,2-bis (4-pyrazolinylcarboxamidophenyl) ethane derivatives having haloaryl group were superior to others.
