Abstract

The efficacy of carbosulfan was evaluated during kharif, 2005–06 against rice stem borer, Scripophaga incertulas in comparison with chlorpyriphos. The results revealed that all the insecticidal treatments reduced the insect population significantly over untreated control and incurred significantly higher yield. Among the treatments, chlorpyriphos @ 250 g ai ha−1 recorded lowest over all increase of stem borer infestation after second application of insecticides in both the years (0.98 and 1.35%) which was significantly superior over untreated control (7.79 and 11.61%) and at par with carbosulfan @ 350 g ai ha−1 (1.43 and 2.79%). Carbosulfan @ 350 g ai ha−1 showed at par result with chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 250 g ai ha−1 (check), hence it may be a viable alternative for rice pest management.
