Biochars are commonly added to agricultural soils by burning of crop residues and may significantly affect the binding of pesticides in soils. Present study reports the sorption of carbaryl and ethion in synthetic biochars prepared from two grasses viz, Kikuyu and Themeda, by pyrolysis st 250, 400, 600 and 860°C. Sorption of botothe pesticides was significantly higher in the biochars than the plant biomass. The pesticide sorption capacity of biochars increased with increase in temperature of their preparation.
