Abstract

C-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-N-phenylnitrone and its N-phenyl derivatives were synthesized by condensing 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde with phenylhydroxylamines. The compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral studies and screened in vitro for fungitoxicity against Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysporum, Myrothecium roridum, Ustilago tritici and Helminthosporium gramineum by spore germination inhibition method. The compound IIa showed promising fungitoxicity against M. roridum and H. gramineum.
