Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken to study the adsorption-desorption behavior of isoproturon on different soils of Himachal Pradesh using batch equilibrium technique. The data obtained was fitted to freundlich adsorption-desorption isotherm model. Freundlich constant log K was highest for silty clay loam soil followed by silt loam and sandy loam. Adsorption isotherms in case of all three soils are of ’S’ type indicating hydrophilic nature of surface of soil due to which water molecules compete with herbicide. The percent desorption of isoproturon from soils was in order of sandy loam > silty loam > silty clay loam soil and inversely proportional to adsorption.
