Abstract

A novel insecticide sulfoxaflor along with buprofezin, acephate, combination product (buprofezin+acephate), traizophos and monocrotophos were evaluated against rice pests on Pusa 1401 during kharif 2010 and 2011. Rice crop was infested by leaf folder and plant hoppers, brown plant hopper and white-backed plant hopper. Insecticide treatments resulted in significantly higher yield than the untreated control except triazophos 40 EC @300 g a.i./ha and monocrotophos 36 SL @500 g a.i./ha during second year which were at par with the control. Based on pest incidence and crop yield, buprofezin @200 g a.i./ha, sulfoxaflor @ 68 g a.i./ha and triazophos 40 EC @500 g a.i./ha proved to be effective against plant hoppers. Combination product, buprofezin+acephate, was also effective against the plant hoppers and leaf folder. Acephate showed promise leaf folder damage.
