Single soil application of Virtako 1.5 G @ 6 kg ha−1 at 30 days after transplanting during 2012–13 reduced the population of brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens), green leafhopper (Nephotettix virescens), leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis) and stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas) of rice, recording 0.87 tiller−1, 1.29 hill−1, 4.09% leaf damage and 4.12% dead heart and 2.21% white ear, as compared with 11.65 tiller−1, 10.03 hill−1, 25.53% leaf damage and 34.42% dead heart and 25.54% white ear in the untreated control. Moderate level of population of mirids and spiders was recorded. The treatment recorded the highest rice grain yield of 5.61 t ha−1 as compared to untreated control (2.88 t ha−1).
