Abstract

Three concentrations (recommended dose for spray, its half and double) of five pesticides namely Carina 50 EC (Profenophos) insecticide, Decis 2.8 EC (Deltamethrin) insecticide, Ekalux 25 EC (Quinalphos) insecticide, Avaunt 15.8 EC (Indoxacarb) insecticide and Basalin 45 EC (Fluchloralin) weedicide were evaluated in wheat bran bait in no-choice laboratory feeding tests against black slug, Filicaulis alte infesting plant nurseries and vegetable field crops. The molluscicidal action followed the order: Indoxacarb>Profenophos>Quinalphos> Fluchloralin>Deltamethrin. Dose and time dependent decrease in mean consumption of profenophos, indoxacarb and fluchloralin poison baits along with corresponding increase in slug mortality was observed. Out of different doses of poison baits tested, bait with recommended dose of Avaunt and Carina were most effective, resulting in 93 and 83% slug mortality respectively within the 4 days test period. Their use for the control of slug, F. alte is recommended.
