Two applications of emamectin benzoate 5 WG, a new formulation @ 150 g ha−1 at ten days interval starting from 38 days after transplanting recorded the lowest mean population of Spodoptera litura (6.41 per 10 plants) and Plutella xylostella (7.16 per 10 plants). Treatment was on a par with its 175 (6.11 and 6.86 per 10 plants) and 188 g ha−1 (5.83 and 6.63 per 10 plants) doses, in contrast to check chemicals, emamectin 5 SG @ 150 (12.83 and 13.55 per 10 plants) and 200 g ha−1 (11.85 and 12.77 per 10 plants), chlorantraniliprole 18.5% EC @ 50 mL ha−1 (13.16 and 13.99 per 10 plants), novaluron 10% EC @ 750 mL ha−1 (34.49 and 36.08 per 10 plants) and the untreated check (126.19 and 134.27 per 10 plants), besides recording the highest yield of 37.52 tonnes ha−1.
