The bioefficacy of essential oil from aromatic herb Vetiveria zizaniodes and its non-polar (petroleum ether) and polar (acetone) fractions is reported against adults of Sitophilus oryzae, a major stored pest of rice. At 10 mg g−1, complete mortality was observed on fourth, sixth and eleventh day of exposure to vetiver oil, its non-polar and polar fractions, respectively. The oil showed mean repellency of 73.33% at 10 mg g−1concentration. The oil may thus be explored to manage rice weevil.
