Volatilization of lindane from soil as affected by method of application and irrigation was studied under field condition for three consecutive seasons. The vapour densities in air ranged from 0.02 to 3.25 μg/m3 which were below the threshold limit of 0.5 mg/m3 Maximum volatilization of lindane from soil occured during rainy season (2.68 to 938 kg/ha) followed by summer (1.59 to 4.25 kg/ha) and winter seasons (1.33 to 4.96 kg/ha). Soil incorporation considerably reduced the volatilization. The loss due to volatilization from surface applied treatments was 13.5 to 62.6 as compared to 6.7 to 24.0% from soil-incorporated treatments. The irrigation increased the volatilization loss during first two weeks only.
