Abstract

A static renewal bioassay of fungicide paclobutrazol (PBZ) against fingerlings of tilapia, Oreochromis mossambicus exposed for 96 h showed LC50 of 11.80 mgL−1. Physiological investigation of Tilapia exposed to two sub-lethal concentrations of PBZ [1/10th (1.18 mg L−1) and 1/5th of LC50 (2.36 mg L−1)] for 28 d revealed that the oxygen consumption rate and O: N ratio decreased significantly (p<0.05) while ammonia excretion rate increased significantly (p<0.05) at both the concentrations as compared to control. The sub-lethal exposure to PBZ altered these physiological parameters and exerted stress on the fingerlings.
