Abstract

A field experiment was carried out to study the bio-efficacy of thiacloprid 21.7% SC and emamectin benzoate 5% SG against chilli thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood. The insecticides were evaluated at their recommended dose, 1.5 times the recommended dose and twice the recommended dose. Among all the treatments, emamectin benzoate @ 20 g ai ha-1 gave maximum mean reduction 95.3% over control which was at par with emamectin benzoate @ 15 g ai ha-1 and thiacloprid @ 144 g ai ha-1 after three sprays. Highest green chilli yield of 76.3 q ha-1 was obtained from this treatment with an 18.7% increase in yield over control and an ICBR of 1:3.9, which is the best value among rest of the treatments. The recommended doses of both thiacloprid and emamectin benzoate provided satisfactory thrips management with higher returns and ICBR than the standard check dimethoate and control.
