Pesticides pose significant risks to humans, animals and plants. This study aimed to assess farmers’ exposure to various pesticide-related risks in the Gaza Strip. A cross-sectional survey of 323 farmers and their family members was conducted during year 2019 using a questionnaire to gather data on sociodemographic characteristics, behaviors and exposures, pesticide-related risks to relatives, health education and self-reported symptoms. The study found a low overall risk score of 35.4%. Detailed results showed low scores in specific areas: behavior and exposure (55.5%), pesticide toxicity to relatives (67.8%), health education (23.4%), disposal practices (21.4%), history of previous injuries (24.4%) and self-reported symptoms (24.7%). Despite farmers’ high awareness of pesticide safety, this knowledge has not been effectively applied in practice. These findings underscore the urgent need for improved health education that emphasizes the importance of using protective gear, such as gloves and masks, to enhance safety practices among farmers.
