Abstract

Alpha-Hcxachlorocylohexane, the major byproduct of lindane industry was converted to alkyl trichlorophenyl ethers, alkyl dichloronitrophenyl ethers and dialkylchloronitrophcnyl diethers. These compounds were screened for their plant growth regulatory action, in vitro, against mustard (Brassica juncea) seedlings. 1-Butoxy- 2,4,5-trichlorobenzene; l-decoxy-2,4,5- trichlorobenzene; 11 chloro-2,4-di (2-ethoxyethoxy)-5-nitrobenzene and l-chloro-2,4-di (2-phenoxyethoxy)-5-nitrobenzene showed auxin like activity.
