Abstract

Photosensitization effect of six long chain fatty acids on the degradation of chlorpyrifos has been investigated. The sensitizing capacity of these fatty acids was found to be dependent on the concentration, degree of unsaturation, configuration of the fatty acids and the presence of other functional group in the molecule. The sensitizing effect of these fatty acids on the photodegradation of chlorpyrifos was found to be in the following order i.e. linolenic acid > linoleic acid > ricinoleic acid > oleic acid > elaidic acid > stearic acid.
