Abstract

The total amino acid nitrogen concentration AAN in the fifth instar larvae of Spodoptera litura treated with lower dosage of carbaryl remained lower than the controls at corresponding ages and stages. At higher dosage, the AAN concentration increases from 2 h to 16 h. In 6th instar, the AAN concentration was lower in all stages on the three respective days. In higher dosage, the AAN concentration increased gradually and at 24 h the values exceeded the controls. In prepupa, the values were initially lower than the controls. But after 24 h at higher dosage the values exceeded that of control, Thus the AAN concentration during the late larval instars and pharate pupal period was highly dynamic and related to the physiological processes of nutrition, growth and moulting.
