Abstract

The mechanisms of differential toxicity of dieldrin to larvae and adults of the khapra beetle, Trogoder-ma granarium Everts were investtgated. The penetration of 14C-dieldrin in larvae and adults did not show significant difference. Both the stages metabolised and excreted a small proportion of topically-applied 14C- dieldrin. Five metabolites of dieldrin were formed in T. granarium, three of those were identified as cis- adrindiol, trans- aldrindiol and 9-hydroxy dieldrin. Qualitative differences in” the nature of metabolites in the external wash, internal extract and excreta were observed.
