Abstract

Three spectrophotometric methods have been tested for determining carbaryl in dust formulations. These are (a) hydrolysis of carbaryl with sodium hydroxide to α-naphthol, coupling of the latter with p- nitrobenzenediazonium tetrafluoroborate and its spectrophotometric determination at 480 nm, (b) coupling of carbaryl with diazotized sulphanilic acid followed by its spectrophotometric determination at 510 nm and (c) ultraviolet spectrophotometric determination of carbaryl at 280 nm. Methods (a and b) have been found to be fairly good for determining carbaryl in commercial formulations.
