Abstract

Development of insecticide resistance to Helicoverpa armigera in several locations in Tamil Nadu was monitored. Resistance to cypermethrin, fenvalerate, endosulfan and quinalphos were assayed using the discriminating doses of cypermethrin 1.0 ug, fenvalerate 0.2 μg, endosulfan 10 μg, and quinalphos 0. 75 μg/larva. The magnitude of resistance varied in different locations for each insecticide monitored, This report highiighss the prevalenee of high levels of fenvalerate resistance in field populations of H. armigera in Tamil Nadu. However, resistance to endosulfan was low compared to the other insecticides monitored. Factors relevance to resistance development and prospects for insecticide resistance management of H. armigera in Tamil Nadu are briefly discussed.
