Abstract

Malathion resistance in red flour beetle, Tribollium castaenum (Herbst) was found in 56% of 43 populations of the pest sampled from various types of storage premises representing different agrodimatic regions of Punjab during 1991–1992. Maximum level of resistance (17.25x) was recorded in this beetle obtained from a public warehouse in Ropar. Malathion resistance was most widespread in populations pertaining to warehouses followed by that from flour mills while it was much less so in populations from rural households and grain markets. The general low levels of resistance encountered in this pest indicated its spread in early heterogenous phase.
