Enrichment cultures from sandy loam soil obtained after repeated additions of metalaxyl under dry, flooded and irrigated conditions affected a more rapid degradation of metalaxyl in a mineral salt medium than the cultures from the soil under similar conditions but not exposed to metalaxyl before. Enrichment cultures from dry soil were least effective in enhancing metalaxyl degradation, by degrading only 44.38% in 30 d while cultures from flooded soil degraded 68% during the same period. Cultures from irrigated soil were most active metalaxyl degraders, affecting complete degradation by 30 days.
