Enhancement of metalaxyl degradation by synergistic interaction among bacterial and fungal cultures isolated from 3 different soils was studied in a mineral salt medium. Bacterial and fungal cultures from the soils were mixed separately to form 6 mixed culture samples. Mixed bacterial cultures from all the soils could not enhance metalaxyl degradation'compared to the individual culture. But fungal cultures from all the soils interacted synergistically to enhance the degradation of the fungicide and the cultures from organic matter rich soil were the most active to effect 67.46% degradation of metalaxyl compared to 31.25 to 45.89% by the individuaa cultures.
