Employing a multipesticide residue analysis method for organochlorine (OC), synthetic pyre-throid (SP), organophosphate (OP) and carbamate insecticides in honey using capillary column gas chromatography. 27 samples of honey collected from 3 different locations in Haryana from 1993 to 1995 have been shown to be contaminated with one chemical or the other. Unlike previous reports, organochlorine insecticides were present in minimum amount. Contamination due to OP was maximum although a few samples from Hisar showed alarmingly high amount of carbaryl and cypermethrin. Samples from the cotton growing belt of Hisar showed maximum residue followed by Gurgaon and Karnal. Maximum residue limit (MRL) values for honey being not available, the safety of samples could not be assessed.
