Abstract

Oviposition deterrence and ovicidal effect of acetone, alcohol, benzene, petroleum ether and distilled water extracts of some plants against the potato tuber moth Phthorimaea operculella Zeller revealed that the extracts obtained in alcohol proved statistically superior over the extracts in other solvents in reducing egg hatching and oviposition. The order of efficacy in checking oviposition was Pinus roxburgii > >chook > Eucalyptus globulus > Murraya kaonigii > Lantana haustonianum > Caanabis sativa > Nicotiana tabacum > neelaphulnu > Mentha arvensis > Melia azedarach > Vitex xegundo.
