Abstract

Going with the old saying “people make the place” we may understand the growing importance of personality assessment in business and industry. Everyone has its unique operating system and these assessments provide us with an insight into the individual's drives, motivations and temperaments. The ever-changing nature of work brings more and more challenges to an individual, understanding the personality differentiation that makes the worker more suitable for a job will be anyhow more beneficial for the industry and the individual as well. This piece of work is an attempt to find out the explicit connection between the person's fitness for the job and his/her productivity. For the purpose, the researcher had used Goldberg's big five personality tests along with Endicott's work productivity scale, the analysis showed the extent to which personality effects job performance in an organization. We found that big five traits of personality do effect the work performance of an individual and agreeableness has “significant” correlation with the work productivity and regression analysis shows that only Agreeableness among the five personality factors is contributing in the overall variance of work performance.
