The peasant movement discourse in Indian historiography has been dominated by the political economy perspective. The paper seeks to explore the possibility of offering an explanation of peasant behavior from the moral economy perspective of action. Subsistence concerns of Pabna peasantry during 1873 movement which were inextricably linked, inter-alia, to the occupancy rights were prime reasons for the genesis of the movement.
